Notes from the CEO's Corner: Building Culture

Image

Now that I'm a CEO and not a consultant, I thought I'd share the challenges I'm facing as I build a successful software company.

For one thing, I know now how important culture is to the success of a company. So I'm very aware of every decision I take, everything action I commit to, and (sometimes) even the look on my face and my body language. I think it's the hardest part of my job, because I tend to be spontaneous. Self-censoring is not something I do easily.

But it pays off. I've got a fabulous team working for me. I trust everyone to make the right decision, and I trust them to back each other (and me) up. They understand bootstrapping and the need for frugality. (We're working on the importance of acquiring customers vs. relying on investors, but that'll come.)

More soon....the CEO is off to another meeting...

Hi, Congrats on the CEO role. Since you mentioned culture I think you might be interested in my radio talk show today at 4-6 PM EST wpkn.org. Two leaders, a CEO and COO will be interviewed talking about emotional intelligence and the way it has made a difference for them and others. Warm regards, Chuck Wolfe
